How to Pair Lights with Tile Display Racks?

With the popularity of modern style, most tile shops use push-pull display racks to showcase their samples. However, some stores also have one or two display cases in their stores to showcase more samples. These cases can display both floor and wall tiles, and have multiple sliding panels that allow them to showcase more products in a small area.

There are some differences in lighting design between tile display racks with fixed vertical or angled panels and display cases, which include the following:

  • The panels of the display racks are fixed, while the boards in the display cases are movable.

  • The display racks have a single layer of panels while the display cases have multiple layers.

When configuring lighting for ceramic tile displays, suitable lights can be selected and adjusted to shine on the fixed panels. However, for display cases, the panels are movable and lighting cannot be fixed on one specific location. Thus, when sales staff move the panels, the center position of the lights might not align with the center of the panel as designed. This can cause issues, especially with multi-layer display cases where the lights could fall beneath the lowest panel when trying to view the innermost layer.

There are several lighting methods for tile display racks with their respective advantages:

  • Installing ceiling spotlights inside the ceramic tile displays, however, the brightness might not be enough and the light might not be even. Moreover, some display cases might not have installed lights beforehand.

  • Installing light tubes in the display cases, which can provide even and widespread light. However, the light efficiency is not so concentrated, and the texture of the tiles might not show ideally, especially for the innermost layer that might not be bright enough.

  • Installing downlights in the display cases, which can also provide even and widespread light. Like the light tubes, the light is not concentrated enough and the texture of the tiles might not show ideally.

  • Installing track lights on the rack of the display cases, but as the light beam angle is generally 15° and 24° on the market, it might be too concentrated on the tile surface. If using track lights on the racks, it is recommended to use special lights for tile showrooms.

  • Installing track lights on the ceiling outside the display cases could be a reasonable lighting solution if the beam angle, distance, and brightness are suitable.

The installation distance should be reasonable, and the recommended installation distance for the track lights on the ceramic tile displays is as follows:

  • It is recommended to use track lights with a beam angle of 36°. If the beam angle is too small, it is easy to cause overexposure on the surface of the tiles, which will affect the tile display effect.

  • It is recommended to use track lights with uniform light distribution (light spot), such as lens-type track lights. If the light spot is uniform, the light inside the display cabinet will be uniformly soft no matter where the sample tile is placed, and the texture and color of the sample tiles will be displayed consistently.

  • It is recommended to choose track lights with high light efficiency for the ceramic tile displays, so that the samples on the back row of the display cabinet can be effectively illuminated.
